IRIS 2002

Based in Italy, IRIS 2002 is a logistics service provider for the fashion industry. As their business grew and underwent an overhaul, they partnered with EM Sistemi Di Sicurezza to install a flexible life safety system that met all structural demands across their 9,000 sqm facility.

For more than a decade, IRIS 2002 SRL has delivered premium logistics services for the luxury Italian fashion industry. During a recent overhaul of systems on site,  IRIS 2002 realised they required a bespoke and extensive fire system to ensure their operations facility was entirely safeguarded to guarantee business continuity. Hochiki Italia’s distributor, DSA Technology SRL, partnered with authorised installation specialists, EM Sistemi Di Sicurezza, to engineer a tailored and flexible solution to IRIS 2002’s application.

IRIS 2002’s site is a complex and vast operating area, with a dedicated hanging garment section which features an overhead trolley system and a loading platform for efficient logistics operations. With an additional, a comprehensive fire system was vital.

In addition, the site also contains 1,500 specially designed garment stands, and box and pallet warehouses that occupy approximately 4,500sqm. With the warehouses being in close proximity with one another, combined with a vast quantity of flammable materials stored, any fire could escalate rapidly, creating a significant risk to life and property. A comprehensive fire detection system was vital to protect the substantial volume of high-value inventory in this multifaceted logistics facility, as well as its  personnel.

DSA Technology SRL has partnered with Hochiki Italia for countless number of years to distribute Hochiki products to customers nationwide:

“Supplying Hochiki products has created great satisfaction from our installers and end-users. They are perfect solutions for various types of environments and sectors, proven to be highly reliable and easy to maintain by the end-user.”

With over 35 years of expertise, EM Sistemi Di Sicurezza has established itself as a trusted leader in the security systems industry. They were able to draw on this expertise to successfully integrate Hochiki’s intelligent fire detection products within IRIS’s structurally demanding application, from design right through to installation.

EM Sistemi Di Sicurezza faced numerous challenges when it came to the layout of the warehouse due the structural complexity. The warehouses’ dimensions and open-plan design meant installing Visual Alarm Devices (VADs) was impractical due to the absence of structural columns. This demanding warehouse environment meant a more flexible solution was required.

The installer chose Hochiki’s YBO-BSB2, base sounder beacons. These VAD-style bases are mounted beneath the ESP intelligent (addressable) sensors on the ceiling to provide both audible and visual notifications.  These products have the ability to provide fifty-one EN54-approved audio tones for emergency identification as well as a high intensity flash. Providing audio-visual warnings are mandatory in environments with a high level of background noise, to protect and notify personnel working there.  Hochiki’s base sounder beacons in this application provided a highly flexible and compliant option for the IRIS 2002’s elaborate logistics application.

Hochiki’s ESP addressable range of sensors were seamlessly compatible with the base sounder beacons. Considering IRIS 2002’s scale of operations in their three floor, 6,600sqm garment warehouse, the extensive range of the ESP intelligent sensors can be tailored to specific locations and feature several enhancements to combat false alarms including automatic drift compensation and variable sensitivity.  Combined with a compliant addressable fire control panel, they will pinpoint the exact location of a fire, enabling rapid responses as well as providing critical protection.

At the heart of the installation, EM Sistemi Di Sicurezza equipped all three warehouses Hochiki’s Latitude fire control panels, with the entire system monitored by a singular control station. Latitude’s remote monitoring option provides 24/7 monitoring access to a fire system, with real time insights, while its unparallel speed instantly identifies fires: essential for such a complex and spacious facility. The Latitude system was seamlessly integrated into the existing systems and infrastructure, offering a customisable and upgradable solution. For an expanding business like IRIS 2002, the Latitude panel was a key investment.

EM Sistemi Di Sicurezza, commented:

“We installed Hochiki’s Latitude panel networked with their ESP fire detection and alarm devices. Despite the challenges with the structure and layout of the warehouse, the flexibility of Hochiki’s system made the design and installation process easy, which resulted in a robust and simple to maintain system. We and IRIS 2002 have full confidence that Hochiki’s fire system will continue to operate smoothly and protect the staff who work there for the future.”

“The range of Hochiki devices allowed us to face all detection and signalling needs with reliable and certified solutions.”

Quotes Ugo Bonucci, part of Technical Support at DSA Technology SRL, Hochiki Italy’s distributor.

“Configuration and programming were extremely simple, reducing commissioning times. In addition, the user interface is clear and intuitive, ensuring immediate and safe management of the system for end operators.”

This project highlights how successful Hochiki products are at providing a flexible solution for highly intricate environments such as IRIS’s 9,000sqm facility, keeping staff and inventory protected whilst maintaining crucial logistical operations.
