Fire Detection for Transport Hubs

The transport sector has to protect passengers, staff and assets 24/7. Whether you’re looking for railway fire alarm systems, linear heat detection for tunnels, emergency lighting on platforms, VADs for passenger areas, false alarm mitigation in high-vibration environments, or something else, Hochiki can help.

Dubai Metro - Update

The Dubai Metro forms the very arteries of this vibrant city with its efficient network carrying millions of passengers daily. Since 2021, a crucial element in ensuring the safety and reliability of this vital infrastructure has been the steadfast partnership between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Hochiki Europe.

Problems & Solutions

Risky Environment

Transport hubs present an environment with many risks and an increased potential for many types of fire.

Multi-level-icon-red

Multi-Level Risk

Transport hubs present various of risk and as such sometimes need specific response procedures.

Complex Environment

The transport hub environment is complex with a multitude of risk types coupled with the presence of many members of the public.

Evacuation Planning

Transport staff need to be signalled in the event of an alarm discreetly to avoid unduly panicking travellers.

False Alarm Disturbance

The costs to the hub to mobilise a Fire Response team in a typical alarm scenario can mount to well over £1,000. False alarms cause undue panic but more importantly, incur a huge waste of resource.

Person question-icon-red

Chief Fire Officers’ Association

The most common causes of unwanted alarms are down to problems with product selection, misguided installation, or little or no system maintenance. The Chief Fire Officers' Association is pressing for measures that are likely to mean a reduced level of response for premises that have a poor unwanted alarm history.

Enhanced Sensitivity

Enhanced sensitivity of our Photoelectric Smoke Sensor means it's equally sensitive to a wide range of fire/smoke types.

Sensitivity Adjustments

Hochiki has the functionality to adjust sensor sensitivities (prealarm and alarm) to suit any specific risk.

Why Fire Detection for Transport Hubs Matters

On 1 October 2006, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 became law, and represented a major step in protecting building occupants. The RRFSO is risk assessment based and states that responsibility for fire safety should rest with a defined ‘responsible person'. It is their responsibility to ensure appropriate fire systems are designed, installed and maintained; failure to comply with the RRFSO will leave the responsible person and/ or building owners vulnerable to prosecution.

In the most extreme cases inadequate fire safety systems could lead to loss of life, but even small-scale fires can disrupt normal transport operations. By using Hochiki fire safety equipment, fires can be detected at an early stage in their development, minimising the impact it has on the transport network.
